Ullman Sails Newcastle

Ullman Sails Newcastle is one of the newest Ullman Sails loft in the world. The loft is equipped to provide you with quality new sails, repair/service work and canvas covers.

Ullman Sails started with Dave Ullman’s sailmaking business started in Newport Beach and is now a worldwide loft system. Dave founded Ullman Sails in 1968 and is one of the world’s greatest competitive sailors. Dave was named Rolex Yachtsman of the Year in 1996, was nominated again for 2007, and is a three-time 470 World Champion, the 2007 Melges 24 World Champion, a five-time Lipton Cup Champion (1992-1996), a ten-time Lido 14 National Champion, and a National Champion in the Snipe, Thistle, Sabot and Coronado 15 racing classes. Dave is also a S.O.R.C. class-winning skipper, a U.S. Team Racing Champion, a U.S. Men’s National Champion (Mallory Cup) and a former coach of the U.S. Olympic Sailing Team.

With the brand now growing internationally,  lofts make sails for one-design dinghies, Olympic class boats, large racing yachts, coastal and world cruisers. Our network of expertise is wide-ranging from new sail manufacturing to sail repair to rigging and boat optimization. Ullman Sails loft members pride themselves on knowing how to design, cut and make sails, not just function as an order taking centre. We provide a true craftsman skill and knowledge to every sail.

The Ullman Sails group has built sails for over 100 mega-yachts as well as having built over 80,000 sails of various types from cruising to racing sails and everything in-between. The loft is world renown for the many multihull sails that are exported around the world, whether as supplied with a new boat or as a replacement for the many builders that have chosen this facility to supply their sails.

In 2018, Ullman Sails International merged with their South African manufacturing facility – a key production house for the worldwide OEM yachting market. This allowed the brand to grow on their promise of a consistent product, delivered consistently, at competitive pricing throughout the world. The Cape Town plant is now technically the engine room of the Ullman empire, producing a large proportion of Ullman exports, technical expertise, product innovation, and institutional memory – you don’t need to look far to see that Ullman Sails South Africa is a manufacturing treasure.

Our Durban loft manufactures all our One Design sails. Ullman Sails Durban has a reputation for producing some of the best one-design sails in the world. Recently, the Durban loft floor was expanded to allow for bigger sails to be manufactured at this facility. The team takes great pride in the work manufactured at this loft, with attention to detail and finishing being a high priority. The loft has expanded its canvas and upholstery division and is fast earning a reputation of producing some of the best work in Durban and Richards Bay. Sails built in the Durban loft have won numerous world and national championships and continue to be admired by sailors around the world.
